  1. I wish all these internet interfaces I use would stop converting my double-spaces into single-spaces. :/

      1. @nutterguy Oh my goodness, I am SO glad that I'm not alone in being hung up over this! Let's unite against poor grammar!

    2. @thelastgherkin Double spaces after a period are wrong anyway. http://www.slate.com/id/2281146/

      1. @starshine I was going to read that article, but it failed at the first hurdle by putting "period" instead of "full stop". :)

          1. @starshine Of course I'm a pedant! I'm complaining about spaces between sentences!

            2. @thelastgherkin If you want to get really bad about it, there are those who say it's correct with monospace fonts, but not with others. :p

              1. @scribus And if I wanted to play dirty, I'd reveal that using one space is called "French spacing", hopefully invoking people's natural xenophobia towards France in order to discourage them from doing it...

                1. @thelastgherkin ((jumping into the middle of this)) Actually, scribus is right. The double-space rule was invented during the era of monospace fonts, because of typewriters, because it was impossible to tell where a sentence began. With the advent of computers and fonts that actually compensated for the natural amount of space between characters, the double-space system became unnecessary and, thus, is both incorrect and dated. ;)

                  1. @libbylishly It's also embedded into my subconscious so much so that I literally can't type after a full stop without double-spacing. Also! It should be a free choice for people between wanting to use it and not wanting to use it (see also: sconn versus scOHne) as opposed to an internet-formatting-mandated autocorrection. Hence my initial annoyance!

                    1. @thelastgherkin Lol. Well, as a proud patriot, i agree that you should absolutely have the freedom to, however incorrectly, exercise your right to double spaces after periods. ;) With that i will most definitely agree!

                      1. @libbylishly Great! Fight the power! In other news: sconn or scOHne? I say scOHne.

                        1. @thelastgherkin scOHne, most definitely. But i do tend to swallow it a bit (the word as well as the edible in question).

                          1. @libbylishly Super-duper! I find it's excellent to end an argument with some agreeing!
