that being said, of course people have room to improve themselves. like if you did a dumb thing pre-2014 that was ignorant in a non-malevolent way then I don't really care, but that seems to be the demo that a lot of cancel culturinos cling to because they see morality as some prescriptive immutable thing as if the world hasn't been in a constant state of unlearning certain dynamics and biases

@scribus oh yeah that too, I was thinking about the industry at large but also individual people saying "I didn't know this racist thing I actively engaged in was racist" is something I don't often buy

what's funny to me is, I feel like the first time I learned about blackface when I was around 5, I was immediately able to discern that it's not something that is okay to do. not that I didn't go through the process of learning/unlearning a lot of racist stuff in my lifetime, but that one just always seemed like kind of a no brainer to me. that being said I am surprised (though probably shouldn't be) at just how common it actually is, and how many people I've known who apparently always thought it was fine
