      1. @haganbmj whaaaa you've never seen it? I own the DVD set :D

        1. @starlightbolt It's on my "to watch" list - and I have it sitting around D: - I Just forget about that every time I have an opportunity to watch anything.

      2. @haganbmj I'm tempted to recommend the Japanese version, but that would be very cliche and the dub isn't actually significantly different from/worse than the original.

        1. @steeldrifter I generally prefer watching the subbed versions - So unless you'd recommend dubbed over that, I think I'll go with the Japanese Audio.

          1. @steeldrifter The subs to FLCL are very good so the Japanese audio is excellent, there's no reason to listen to the English version unless you were re-watching it and hoping for a somewhat different experience.

            1. @detective @starlightbolt @steeldrifter Sounds good - I'll watch the subbed version. That's rare though that it sounds close in both English and Japanese.

            2. @detective Or if you watched it when it aired on AdultSwim who knows how many years ago. :3

              1. @steeldrifter That too I guess. Not a huge fan of AS. I prefer to watch my Japanese little girl cartoons in their original japanese format /smug

                1. @detective Well, in 2003/4 that was a bit of a challenge. D: At least for me.

                  1. @steeldrifter Rather true lol. If it was the only option I can't really say anything about it :p Do you watch a lot of anime?

Thursday, 28-Apr-11 19:25:50 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                    1. @detective I used to, but not lately; though I might get some time in after finals are over to check out what's out there, hopefully. Any recommendations?

Thursday, 28-Apr-11 19:32:19 UTC from web
                      1. @steeldrifter All sorts! What's your favorite genre? If you're interested in some stuff that recently aired that was exceptional I'd like to put forth The Tatami Galaxy and Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magika (mystery-psychological and action-psychological respectively).

Thursday, 28-Apr-11 19:35:33 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                        1. @detective I'm up for a good variety of things, hence my open-mindedness to MLP. I do have a distaste for narm and Mary-Sues, though. D:

Thursday, 28-Apr-11 19:40:46 UTC from web
                          1. @steeldrifter Who doesn't? Well the two I mentioned take a good shot at troupes like those (especially Madoka - watch until at least episode three and then you'll understand why I recommended it) but let's see... Moyashimon, Eden of the East, Aria the Animation (it's sequels are even better than the first season), K-ON!! (MLP reminds me of K-ON! with horses instead of japanese schoolgirls tbh), Summer Wars, Working!, Trapeze, and Bakemonogatari. Most I recommend were Slice of Life because of their tendency to be similar to MLP. Eden of the East is a great action anime with witty dialgoue, as is Bakemonogatari. Summer Wars is just an awesome movie you may have missed, and Trapeze has fantastic animation and atmosphere.

                            1. @detective # One of the best animes of all time, imo, is Lupin the 3rd.

                              1. @mysteriousstranger I like the song they play throughout the series. I couldn't get myself to watch past Part 1 though. Pretty classic taste there though bro~

Thursday, 28-Apr-11 19:51:05 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                                1. @detective # The second series is where I picked up, haven't seen part 1 but I want to. Castle of Cagliostro is still my favourite of all the movies.

Thursday, 28-Apr-11 19:52:29 UTC from web
                                  1. @mysteriousstranger I haven't seen it yet, but I definitely plan on watching it. It has a lot of aspects that make it sound successful, especially the fact that Miyazaki directed it. He usually does really good work.

                            2. @detective Awesome. Thanks, I'm putting those in Notepad to check out as soon as I've got the time. Hopefully my friendly neighborhood torrent site will be able to help me out with it.

                            3. @detective How did you not mention Haruhi.

Thursday, 28-Apr-11 19:55:13 UTC from web
                              1. @starshine Damn I love Haurhi, but he said he didn't like Mary-Sue's so I didn't recommend it. It's also rather Main Stream so I had assumed he'd had heard of it before.

Thursday, 28-Apr-11 19:56:42 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                                1. @detective Haruhi is a good series. Bad manga, but a good anime series.

                                2. # @detective Ah, Haruhi Suzumiya: The original God Mode Sue.

Thursday, 28-Apr-11 19:57:51 UTC from web
                                3. @detective Haruhi is Mary Sue?! No.

Thursday, 28-Apr-11 19:58:15 UTC from web
                                  1. @starshine Not sensing sarcasm so I'm going to have to disagree. She's good at literally everything she does which is pretty much the definition of Mary-Sue. Unlike most though she gets a large amount of charatcer eccentricities that really set her apert which is nice.

Thursday, 28-Apr-11 20:02:00 UTC from StatusNet Desktop
                                    1. @detective Seems like there's a lot of debate on what Mary Sue actually means. I tend to view the term as meaning the "blank canvas" character, perfect at everything but with a fairly undeveloped personality - so that whoever's watching/reading/etc. can substitute themselves into the character's position.

Thursday, 28-Apr-11 20:06:29 UTC from web
                                      1. @starshine Ah okay. I thought you meant "Perfect" when you said Mary-Sue. I hate the unwritten main characters too though, I understand. By that definition then, @steeldrifter, do watch Haruhi if you haven't already. Especially the Disappearance movie (and even Endless Eight in season two (which I personally loved)).

Thursday, 28-Apr-11 20:09:39 UTC from StatusNet Desktop

                                          1. @starshine I was half-heartedly cheering for the underdog baseball team of which I had no connection to when I felt I'd be getting a call from Haruhi soon.

          2. @haganbmj Nah, I usually watch the subs as well, probably because I just got used to those voices.

        2. @steeldrifter yeah a couple of voices in english and japanese sound like they are done by the same people they sounds so close
