So: how many advert breaks (i.e. commercial breaks) are there in the average half-hour cartoon on American telly?

@thelastgherkin Far too many. I think there's three cuts during FiM.

@thelastgherkin Two or three, depends on what show it is.

@thelastgherkin I say around 7 to 12 minutes for every half-hour block?

@zarkanorf @thelastgherkin In a 30-minute program, the FCC mandates 11 minutes of adverts.

@zarkanorf @thewolverine @starshine Wow, Americans get loads of ads! We only have one break every 15 mins!

@thelastgherkin Huh. But doesn't it just have the same amount of adverts as it would, just in different size packages? I mean, a 30-minute block is going to have 8 minutes of ads either way.

@administrator Funny thing is, nowadays we have to pay to get the cable tv, and then still get more ads. In the old days tv was free, there were fewer commercials, and product placement was virtually unheard of. Oh well, progress comes at a price, doesn't it?

@administrator Meh. If an ad is actually so annoying that I feel I have to block it, I just stop visiting that site. Problem solved.

@administrator I wish I didn't have ad-block anymore, if the ads are getting so ridiculously funny.

@zarkanorf At least we're not being assaulted by X10 popunders now. That's when an adblock extension really would have been nice to have, but it didn't exist back then.

@starshine I really hate the ads with sound, especially when I'm listening to music.

@zarkanorf Any time I encounter one of those, I look for the webmaster's e-mail address and inform them of it. Often they're just not aware, and usually they'll notify the ad company, and sometimes they just pull the ads off the site entirely. Nopony wants those.

@zarkanorf You could always disable ads on certain sites and enable them on others. I generally customize mine. But that's usually removing an image someone thought it'd be funny to put in front of everything or removing background music from a page or something (4chan is better with music because only the people who know how to do that stay).
